Colours as Power

I have always been filled with a lot of powerful emotions. I get scared, I get angry, and I love intensely. I chose to showcase that with a series of portraits inspired by Contemporary Photography. Jake hicks is a renowned photographer known for his clever use of gels and colour to elicit an emotion within the viewer and is my artist inspiration for this project. Each of my portraits represents a mood based on the different colour combinations used to create something truly unique and truly...Me.

Hope

Dominating magenta represents acceptance and the subtle cyan represents clarity of mind. Magenta and Cyan, together, represent hope and serenity.

Envy

Green has always had a jealous connotation while orange demands attention. When both colours are paired together, a true representation of envy, spite, and biterness.

Deceit

Though yellow usually represents sunshine, this portrait is anything but cheerful. When paired with violet, it shifts the emotions to caution and deceit.

Tranquility

Blue is known to be associated with sadness, but I chose to associate it with tranquillity. Like a river flowing through a rainforest, the calmness of the green compliments the peaceful feeling of the portrait.

Power

Red is one of the most powerful colours while navy blue strongly represents confidence and regality. I carry myself as a strong woman and the pairing of both colours represent who I am and what I stand for.
